München-Ottobrunn - More and more often IT support, program maintenance or other auxiliary internal IT functions inside enterprises are transferred and executed by external specialists. The trend follows the complete outsourcing of IT departments. This has as a consequence that third parties access remotely data processing systems "from the outside" mostly with a high privileged account. "SessionAudit for RealVNC (Virtual Network Computing)" and “SessionAudit for RDP (RemoteDesktopProtocol)”, a new software program from SideQuest, was developed in order to log particularly these authorized accesses from the outside and to record all users' keyboard and mouse activities of a support session.
A new opportunity for enterprises has now arisen to reconstruct at any time the support activities of third parties and offer access to any data asset. This solution requires an independent PC, which is placed as a Proxy PC behind the Firewall of the enterprise and in front of the enterprises' systems. The software can be configured in such a way that if the audit system is not available, access from outside is prevented. All relevant data packets, which result during the support session, are recorded until the session is terminated. The enterprise has now the possibility with the session viewer to replay all issued users' interactions of the selected session.
The representation corresponds to a 1:1 screen of the person interacted within that session. Stored as AVI or MPEG the session can arbitrarily be often replayed like a video, including fast forwards and fast backwards. SessionAudit can be installed likewise directly on any maintenance-relevant PC which allows as well complete auditing of session initiated from outside.
